It’s why so many customers come to us time and again, and why so much of our business comes from referrals. One truck that always gets customers excited is the legendary, GMC Sierra 1500 HD. Here are seven safety features that set the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 HD apart from its competition.

2024 GMC Sierra 1500 HD

Yes, the GMC Sierra 1500HD is a reliable, durable, high-output pickup. Yes, it’s one of the best-selling trucks in North America and is celebrated for its handling, power, and performance.

However, while the 2024 model has already been recognized as the Best Large Light Duty Pickup of 2024 by J.D. Power, it’s also a well-constructed, sturdy truck.

The GMC Sierra 1500 HD and its body-on-frame construction received a Five-Star safety rating in 2023 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). With the release of the 2024 model, GMC has continued its long-standing tradition of implementing multiple safety-first features.

1. Forward Collision Alert

The Sierra 1500 HD’s forward collision alert system is designed to immediately notify you of any potential forward-facing collisions. The system tracks the distance between your Sierra 1500 HD and the vehicle in front of you. If you’re too close, or the vehicle in front slows down, the system will provide an immediate tailgating alert allowing you to adjust immediately.

2. Blind Zone and Lane Change Alerts

The Sierra 1500 HD’s blind zone and lane change alerts are critical to avoiding vehicles in your blind zone. The system’s side-mirror visuals instantly notify you of any vehicle approaching your blind zone. Not only does this make you more aware of your surroundings, but it helps you avoid collisions when changing lanes.

3. Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Braking, and Rear Park Assist

It’s a common occurrence. You’re backing out of a parking spot and don’t notice the vehicle behind you, and they don’t immediately see you. Fortunately, with the Sierra 1500 HD’s rear cross-traffic alert and braking system, this is no longer a concern. The system immediately notifies you of any vehicle behind you as you back up. It provides an alert and will initiate an emergency brake if needed.

The rear park assist safety feature alerts you to any vehicle, obstruction, or object immediately behind your GMC Sierra 1500 HD as you’re backing up. This helps you avoid bumping into or colliding with parked vehicles.

4. Lane Keep Assist and Departure Warning

This unique and innovative safety feature notifies you immediately if your GMC Sierra 1500 HD is drifting into another lane, allowing you to immediately correct course. It provides a warning signal and will also gently move your steering wheel – albeit briefly – back towards your lane. It’s intuitive enough not to be initiated when you’re using your turn signal.

5. Multiple Airbags

The GMC Sierra 1500 HD comes standard with six airbags. The driver and passenger have two-stage frontal airbags and seat-mounted side-impact airbags. Finally, overhead/head-curtain airbags provide much-needed safety from above in case of a rollover or accident.

6. 360° Bird’s-Eye Camera System

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 HD comes with a high-definition surround vision system that uses up to 15 separate cameras. These cameras allow for rear camera mirror monitoring, bed view camera monitoring, hitch guidance with hitch view, rear trailer views, and forward and reverse side views. All cameras provide high-definition digital images and video to help you at every step of your journey.

7. OnStar® Safety Features & Teen Driver Assist

Last, but not least, is GMC’s innovative and iconic OnStar® in-vehicle safety system and its teen driver-assist technology. Available 24/7, GMC’s OnStar® two-way safety system provides emergency roadside assistance and immediate crash response across the United States.

The teen driver-assist technology allows parents to set speed warnings and speed limits to encourage safe driving. The feature also allows parents to review their teen’s driving history while also setting buckle-to-drive conditions before driving.
